It was not a successful weekend for Ultimate Fighting Championship veterans in the sports entertainment realm.
Former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar relinquished his WWE heavyweight title to Drew McIntyre in the Wrestlemania 36 main event on Sunday night at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Fla. The match was taped at the venue ahead of time and didn’t have any fans in attendance due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Lesnar, a former UFC heavyweight king, has consistently been one of the biggest stars in the WWE. The former NCAA championship wrestler flirted with a return to the Octagon to face Daniel Cormier but ultimately elected to return to the WWE.
Meanwhile, “The Ultimate Fighter 18” cast member Shayna Baszler was defeated by Becky Lynch in a match for the WWE Raw women’s championship in a taped bout that aired on Saturday. A veteran of the UFC, Invicta, Strikeforce and ShoXC, Baszler hasn’t competed in mixed martial arts since a loss to Reina Miura at Deep “Jewels 15” in February 2017.
